Yarnzzzzzz

Finished this spin last night….

…or should I say early this morning.  I lost quite a few z’s on this one.  Sigh.  The things you go through to be able to have one less UFO hovering around the house. 

This is the spin that I started at Greenbank Mill’s Spin In a couple weeks ago.  It really should have been done by now.  But we went to a cook out yesterday and although I enjoyed the good food and company, I was still left trying to figure out how I was going to get this done this weekend.  Seems like every time I have that question, I always come up with the same answer.  Sleep deprivation!

It is worth it though. Just look at that color! :)

The larger skein is not completely dry yet.  But, it’s close enough for photos.  I actually wanted that one to come out a little more consistent, but I had pleasant distractions for a good part of the spinning.  What can I say?  It was my first spin in on the one hand.  And on the other, just you try to keep from tickling that Girl Child when she gets in one of her tickling moods, lol!

The large skein is a fractal spin and the smaller skein was the leftovers from one of the bobbins that I decided to n-ply.  I’m thinking I’m going to need that extra bobbin sometime soon…The funny thing about when you’re sleepy is you tend to forget things.  I forgot that I never could figure out how to n-ply on the Ashford Joy.  Since I was too sleepy to remember that, it actually worked out this time.  Go figure.

No sooner do I get a project done that I’m itching for another.  So, I also started another little something else today as well…

It’s a tiny weaving project in which I learned the terms warp (the white strands of yarn running vertically down the cardboard) and weft (the so-far orange yarn that has been woven between the warp strands).  ABC-type stuff.  The bundle of handspun is called a weaving butterfly.  I got the directions from a book that I love called Spin Dye Stitch by Jennifer Claydon.  One of the first books I bought on handspinning and the photos of handspun are just scrumptious!

Honestly, I can’t even tell you what’s going on in my head about this weaving thing yet, lol.  But, it’s a small enough project to tackle for movie night with the kids.  And I can’t wait to see the color changes. :)

So, we’ll see where this goes…

I think it’s amazing that I get to do these things on a whim.  Just because I feel like I want to make something.  It’s such a privilege that I do enjoy wholeheartedly and as much as possible.  Today, I would like to express thanks to all of those who fight for my freedom to pursue crafting in peace.
